In April 2026, Tzumi Electronics recalled approximately 50,000 FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells (5-52.5 lbs) due to a serious impact hazard. The recall was issued as a fast track recall through the CPSC.

How Many People Were Injured?

What Is the Problem?

Weight plates on the recalled FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells can dislodge from the handle during use, posing a risk of serious injury due to impact hazard.

The dumbbells adjust from 5 to 52.5 pounds by turning the handle while nested in the storage tray, and if the plates are not properly secured, they can separate mid-lift. According to the recall:

“Weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing a risk of serious injury due to impact hazard.”

What Types of Injuries Were Reported?

The CPSC has received more than 115 reports of weight plates dislodging during use. At least 6 injuries have been reported, including:

  • Broken toes
  • Bruises
  • Contusions
  • Lacerations

These injuries are consistent with heavy weight plates, potentially weighing up to 47.5 pounds, falling on or striking the user during exercise. The true number of injuries may be higher, as many incidents go unreported.
