Former High School Teacher Guilty of Sexually Abusing 18 Students

May 8, 2019 —A jury found Scott Silva, 44, guilty of molestation and sexual battery against 18 students while he was working as a high school teacher and girls lacrosse coach at a charter school in Van Nuys, California.

Scott Silva was a science teacher at Birmingham Community Charter High School in Van Nuys, as well as an athletic trainer and coach.

Investigators said he began carrying out the sexual abuse in 2016 and victimized 18 underage female students.

His inappropriate conduct with the girls included lewd comments, touching the girls’ private parts over their clothes, and skin-on-skin contact with at least one girl.

City Attorney Mike Feuer said in a statement:

“The young victims in this case showed extraordinary courage by coming forward and reporting these atrocious crimes.”

Silva was arrested in November 2018 and has remained in custody since then. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 19, 2019.
