Frozen Corn Recalled for Listeria Risk
November 15, 2017 — Three major grocery stores have issued a recall for store-brand frozen corn because the products may be contaminated with Listeria.
The recalls were issued by Stop & Shop, Giant Food and Martin’s.
The problem is that the corn may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause food poisoning. There have been no reported illnesses, but Listeria infections can be extremely serious or deadly. The FDA warns:
“Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections.”
Frozen Corn Recall
The following frozen corn products were recalled:
- Stop & Shop Frozen Whole Kernel Sweet Corn, 16 oz., UPC 68826700676 with a Best By Date of Oct-2019
- Giant Frozen Whole Kernel Sweet Corn, 16 oz., UPC 68826700676 with a Best By Date of Oct-2019
- Martin’s Frozen Whole Kernel Sweet Corn, 16 oz., UPC 68826700676 with a Best By Date of Oct-2019
Consumers who bought any of these products should throw them out and return a proof of purchase to the store for a full refund.
