Guava Roam Strollers Recalled for Brake Failure Safety Risk
In November 2024, Guava Family recalled about 8,500 Guava Roam Strollers because the brakes can fail, or unexpectedly release.
What is the Problem?
There were hundreds of reports of the Roam stroller brake-lock unexpectedly releasing after being set, or failing to engage when it was pushed down, according to Guava Family.
What is the Risk
Brake failure on a recalled Guava Roam stroller poses “fall and injury hazards to children,” according to the recall. If the brakes do not work, or they release unexpectedly after being set, the stroller could roll away with a child inside and crash, roll down a hill, or into traffic.
Were Any Injuries Reported?
No injuries were reported when the Guava Roam stroller recall was announced on November 7, 2024, but there is a risk of severe injuries.
Guava Family said it received 67 reports of the brake-lock disengaging after being set. This is a serious safety hazard because the brakes could release unexpectedly when a parent is unable to stop the stroller from rolling away with a child inside.
There were also 152 reports of the brake pedal not engaging when it was pushed down, according to Guava Family.
How To Identify Recalled Strollers
The Guava Roam stroller recall involves first-generation Roam strollers that were manufactured between July 2020 and December 2021. The recall involves Roam Strollers Model No. 2205000.
What Should I Do?
You can find the manufacturing date by looking at the black tracking label under the rear of the seat. If your stroller was manufactured in 2022 or later, it is not being recalled due to this brake failure issue.
Visit the recall website at https://www.guavafamily.com/pages/stroller-recall to check if your stroller is part of the recall, and if so, begin the registration process for a free repair.
How Do I Fix My Stroller?
You will need to register with Guava Family to receive a new Roam Frame Assembly Kit, which will include the stroller frame, seat unit & seat pad, and stroller canopy.
To repair your stroller, you must remove the rear wheels from your current stroller and assemble them to the new frame assembly kit.
Guava Family said it understands that “recalls are frustrating and inconvenient.” You should NOT keep using your recalled stroller until it is repaired, according to the company.
