Hillrom Lift Recall Announced After 2 Patient Deaths
On February 22, 2021, the FDA announced a Class 1 Recall for Hillrom Liko Multirall 200 Overhead Lifts due to a risk of death, falls, and severe injuries.
What is an Multirall Patient Transfer Lift?
Hill Rom Liko Multirall 200 Overhead Lifts help caregivers move patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. About 11,600 recalled lifts were made and distributed between December 2000 and October 2020.
What is the Problem?
The problem is that the lift’s Q-link strap lock does not attach properly to the S65 carriage hook. If the strap lock does not attach, the motor and/or the patient can fall. Patients who fall out of an overhead lift can suffer severe, life-threatening injuries or death, according to the FDA.
How Many People Were Injured?
The FDA said Hillrom has received 34 complaints about the product, including 22 reports of serious injuries and two patients who died.
