Hy-Vee Recalls Short Cuts Vegetable Mixes
In November 2020, Hy-Vee Inc. recalled two Hy-Vee Short Cuts vegetable mix products due to a risk of Listeria infections.
The recalled products were sold at Hy-Vee grocery stores in 8 states, including Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
No illnesses were reported. The problem was discovered during routine safety sampling at Hy-Vee’s Short Cuts production facility.
The products have a “Best if Used By” date up through December 3, 2020. The recall includes the following items:
- Hy-Vee Short Cuts Pot Roast Mix (UPC Code 0272083305352)
- Hy-Vee Short Cuts Grill/Oven Ready Veggie Mix (UPC Code 0272104105992).
Listeria Food Poisoning Symptoms
Listeria bacteria can grow on food in a refrigerator and survive in a freezer. If you develop an infection, you might experience symptoms such as:
- Fever
- Chills
- Muscle aches
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
The symptoms may begin the same day you eat contaminated food, but it can take up to 70 days before the first symptoms begin. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms can include:
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion or changes in alertness
- Loss of balance
- Convulsions
