3.6 Million HydroTech Garden Hoses Recalled
In July 2025, about 3.6 million “burst-proof” HydroTech Garden Hoses were recalled after hundreds of reports of the hose bursting, including dozens of people who suffered impact injuries or temporary loss of hearing.
What is the Problem?
The manufacturer, Winston Products, warned that the expandable “burst-proof” garden hoses can burst, which poses an “impact hazard and a risk of temporary impaired hearing,” according to the recall.
How Many People Were Injured?
Winston Products said it received “at least 222 reports of the hoses bursting, resulting in at least 29 injures.” The injuries include:
- Impact injuries
- Bone bruise
- Two sprains
- Hearing loss — “temporarily impaired hearing from the sound of the hose bursting,” according to the recall
How To Identify Recalled Garden Hoses
The recall involves HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses that were manufactured on or before August 31, 2025.
These hoses were sold in length of 25, 50, 60, 75, 100 and 200 feetwith no markings, or a marking ending in -211, -212, -213, -214, -221, -222, -223, -224, -231, -232, -233, -234, -241, -242 or -243.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled HydroTech expandable garden hoses were sold at Ace Hardware, Amazon, Do It Best, Home Depot, Target, Walmart and other stores nationwide and online from January 2021 through April 2025 for between $20 and $136.
What Should I Do?
Winston Products is urging customers who bought a recalled garden hose to return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund.
Customers who bought the hose from other retailers should contact Winston Products. To get a refund, you must cut off the regulator-end of the hose and contact Winston Products for a full refund.
