March 24, 2023 — A man from Alabama who was burned by an Instant Pot Viva 9-in-1 Multi-Cooker has filed a lawsuit.
The man, Jeffrey L., is a resident of Northport, Alabama, who alleges that he was burned by a defective Instant Pot® Viva Black SS 60 Multi-Cooker.
The product is a 9-in-1 multi-cooker with multiple features, including a pressure cooker, which is what he was using when it exploded.
He alleges that he was able to easily twist open the lid when there was still a dangerous amount of pressure trapped inside the pot, which caused the scalding-hot contents of the pot to be ejected out.
He blames the accident on the failure of the product’s so-called “safety features,” which failed to lock the lid until it was safe to open.
His lawsuit specifically cites advertising claims from the manufacturer, such as: “[A]s a safety feature, until the float valve drops down the lid is locked and cannot be opened.”
The Instant Pot Viva Black SS 60 Multi-Cooker is allegedly “defectively and negligently designed” and “unreasonable dangerous.” He also accuses the manufacturer, Instant Brands Inc., of putting profits over safety by selling this product to unsuspecting consumers.
His Instant Pot Viva Multi-Cooker Lawsuit was filed on March 14, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama (Western Division) — Case Number 7:23-cv-00320-LSC.
