March 20, 2015 — After eight consumers reported finding bits of metal, Kraft Foods has issued a recall for about 6.5 million boxes of Macaroni & Cheese.
Kraft said none of the incidents involved injuries caused by the metal pieces.
The recall only includes 7.25-oz boxes of original-flavor Macaroni & Cheese, but impacts a variety of configurations:
- 7.25 oz. box, Original flavor
- 3-pack box of those 7.25 oz. boxes, Original flavor
- 4-pack shrink-wrap of those 7.25 oz. boxes, Original flavor
- 5-pack shrink-wrap of those 7.25 oz. boxes, Original flavor
The products were sold in the United States Puerto Rico, South America, and the Caribbean.
Recalled products are marked with “best-by” dates between September 18, 2015 and October 11, 2015. Directly below this date, the boxes are marked with “C2,” which is the code for the production line where the products were made. No other sizes, varieties, pasta shapes, or packaging configurations are under recall.
In a statement, Kraft said: “We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed.”
This is not the first time Kraft has issued a major recall in recent years. Last August, over 7,000 cases of American Singles were recalled because a supplier did not properly store certain ingredients. In September 2011, a recall was issued for 135,000 cases of Velveeta Shells & Cheese after consumers reported finding wire bristles in some products.
