August 22, 2025 — A woman from Louisiana who was burned by a pressure cooker explosion has filed a lawsuit against Walmart.
The lawsuit was filed by Chelsa M., a resident of Louisiana who was burned by a Farberware 7-in-1 Programmable Electric Pressure Cooker that she bought at Walmart.
Her injuries were caused by a Farberware Pressure Cooker, which is a product that is sub-licensed and sold by Walmart.
The product was a 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker with Model: WM-CS6004W, according to her lawsuit.
On or about September 7, 2024, she suffered serious and substantial burn injuries when the lid of the pressure cooker suddenly and unexpectedly exploded off the pot when she was using it to cook food.
When the lid opened, the built-up pressure, heat, and steam were suddenly released. This ejected the scalding-hot contents of the pot all over her body, resulting in serious burns.
She blames her injuries on the failure of the pressure cooker’s safety mechanisms, which failed to lock the lid until the unit was depressurized.
Her lawsuit also accuses Walmart of failing to adequately warn consumers about the burn hazards of using this product, failing to issue a recall, or re-design the pressure cooker to fix design flaws.
Her Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed against Walmart on August 8, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana — Case Number 2:25-cv-01143.
