Mississippi Woman Awarded $1M in Pressure Cooker Lawsuit

Mississippi Woman Awarded $1M in Pressure Cooker Lawsuit

April 15, 2026 – A woman who was burned in a pressure cooker explosion has been awarded a $1,097,000 judgment in Mississippi.

If your pressure cooker lid opened while the unit was still pressurized and you were scalded by the contents, you are not alone.

The federal court in the Southern District of Mississippi entered a $1,097,000 default judgment against I.S. Appliances, the manufacturer of the Bon Appetit pressure cooker, model number BAPCR010.

The lawsuit was filed by a 42-year-old woman who suffered first and second degree burns to her chest, arms, and abdomen when the pressure cooker malfunctioned and exploded in February 2021.

The defendant, I.S. Appliances, failed to respond to the lawsuit. After reviewing the case, the court found the entry of default judgment appropriate and awarded the full amount.

The plaintiff’s injuries required two days of hospital care, including infection prevention and skin graft application. Her family soaked her wounds in cold water immediately after the explosion. The hospital visit had to be delayed until the following day because roads were dangerously icy.

Lawyers explained that the long-term impact extended far beyond her physical scars. She also lost her joy of cooking, and the explosion left a lasting mark on her entire family.
