Little Giant Ladders Recalled After 19 Injuries Reported
In November 2026, Little Giant Ladder Systems announced a recall for about 3,662,000 ladders with Rapid Locks due to a fall hazard and a risk of serious injuries. The recall covers 11 Little Giant models that have been sold since 2015.
What Happened?
Little Giant received 19 reports of people who were seriously injured when their ladders retracted due to failure of the Rapid Locks. The recall is massive, involving about 3.7 million ladders that were sold at Lowe’s, Costco, Amazon and other stores nationwide from 2015 to 2026.
What Is a Rapid Lock?
The “Rapid Lock” is a feature on Little Giant ladders that functions as a locking fastener. To use the Rapid Lock, a user turns the lock to raise or lower the ladder. The locks are designed to insert into the ladder rungs to adjust the height. Each ladder leg has one (black or orange).
What Is the Problem With Little Giant Rapid Locks?
If a lock is not fully seated or engaged, the ladder can suddenly and unexpectedly slip down or slide into a shorter height-position, and a person on the ladder can fall and suffer serious injuries (or possibly even death, depending on the height of the fall).
On its recall website, Little Giant explains the CPSC asked it to add a supplemental warning label instructing users to “visually verify that all rail locks are fully engaged before climbing.”
According to the recall:
“The ladders can suddenly retract if the Rapid Locks are not fully engaged, posing a fall hazard to consumers.”
The repair kit contains new warning labels and instructions, which urge owners to double-check that their Rapid Locks are properly engaged before every use and to maintain the locks with lubrication.
How Many People Were Injured?
Little Giant received 25 reports of the ladders retracting unexpectedly, including 19 reports of people who suffered injuries. Little Giant also received 39 reports of Rapid Locks not working properly.
Of those 19 injury reports, 3 involved head injuries and 16 involved other types of injuries. The list of injuries described in the recall includes::
- Traumatic brain injury
- Skull fracture
- Concussion
- Vision loss
- Hearing loss
- Cognitive impairment
- Joint or bone fracture
- Lacerations
- Bruising

Where Do I Find the Part Number on My Ladder?
Every Little Giant ladder has a label with the model, duty rating, sizes and warranty. The part number is printed in the black bar under the heading PART NUMBER / NÚMERO DE PIEZA.
According to Little Giant’s label reference guide, the label is just above the outrigger on the left side of the Fortress, inside the left rail between the top cap and hinge bracket on the King Kombo XT, and on the inside of the inner rail on the left side of articulated extendable models.
Where Were the Recalled Ladders Sold?
The ladders were sold at Lowe’s and Costco stores nationwide between December 2015 and October 2026. They were also sold on websites such as Lowes.com, Amazon.com, Costco.com, LittleGiantLadders.com and other websites for about $100 to $1,000.
Can I Get a Refund?
Only in some cases. The first step is to ask for a repair kit with warning labels and instructions. Owners who follow those instructions and still have a Rapid Lock that does not function properly after lubrication should contact Little Giant for an evaluation.
If a lock does not function properly after that evaluation, Little Giant will offer the choice of a replacement ladder (of the same or equivalent model) or a refund.
That refund ranges from a depreciated value determined by date of purchase, up to full refund of the purchase price for ladders that were purchased within the past 12 months.
What Should I Do If I Own a Recalled Little Giant Ladder?
Stop using the ladder and keep it out of use until you have reviewed the recall information and contacted Little Giant for a repair kit. Register at the recall website at https://rapidlockcustomereducation.expertinquiry.com with your model, part number and date code (enter NA if the date code is unknown). Up to 5 ladders can be claimed per registration.
For more information, call Little Giant at 866-201-9069 (6 a.m. to 3 p.m. MT, Monday through Friday).
Have Little Giant Ladders Been Recalled Before?
Yes. In March 2017, another recall was issued for about 37,000 Little Giant Velocity, LT and Liberty multipurpose ladders because the locking pins/rung fasteners can fail, posing a fall hazard. No injuries were reported at the time.
Locking problems have affected other multi-position ladders. For example, Werner recalled its Multi-Max Pro ladders because the locking mechanism can jam and not fully lock into place.
