Marley Spoon Meals Linked to Listeria Risk

On October 7, 2025, certain Marley Spoon meal trays were linked to a risk of Listeria contamination in the riced cauliflower ingredient, according to a Public Health Alert issued by the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).

Product Information

The Listeria warning involves the Marley Spoon BBQ Sauce Beef Meatballs with Cheesy Cauliflower Meal (10.5-oz. packages) with Lot Code 25255 and establishment number “Est. 47718.” The USDA also provided photos of the product label.

The meal tray is a microwavable meal tray that is fully-cooked, but delivered frozen. The meal tray is intended to be reheated in the microwave before being eaten, or stored in a freezer for future use.

Did Anyone Get Sick?

No illnesses were reported as of October 2025. The problem was discovered by FreshRealm, a company that supplies fresh ingredients for food-delivery services and prepared foods in grocery stores.

FreshRealm notified the USDA after the riced cauliflower ingredient that was used in certain Marley Spoon and Blue Apron meals tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

Was There a Recall?

No. Marley Spoon did not announce a recall because the meal trays are no longer available for purchase.

Even so, health officials are concerned that the potentially-contaminated products may be in some consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. These products could still make people sick.

What Is The Risk?

Listeria can survive on foods that are frozen or refrigerated, and people who eat contaminated food can develop a serious infection called listeriosis.

This infection can spread beyond the digestive system to the blood, nervous system, or other parts of the body. It is most dangerous for pregnant women, elderly adults, and immunocompromised individuals, but anyone can develop a life-threatening infection.

Food safety officials urge anyone who ate food that was recalled due to Listeria to be vigilant for symptoms of listeriosis:

“Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.”
