Bounce House Linked to Deadly Strangulation Risk

In November 2022, safety officials warned consumers to stop using “My Bouncer Little Castle” Bounce Houses because children can get trapped and strangle to death in a hoop.

What Happened?

The warning was issued after a tragic report of a 4-year-old boy who strangled to death after his neck became entangled and twisted in the hoop of the bounce house, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). There was another report who became trapped in the hoop, but avoided injury.

The problem is that the bounce houses have a yellow hoop that is attached to a green pillar inside the main bounce house.

“The hoops were tested and failed to meet the ASTM voluntary standard intended to reduce the risk of accidental head or neck entrapment in inflatable play devices,” according to the CPSC.

Where Were They Sold?

The bounce houses have been sold since at least April 2013 under the name “My Bouncer Little Castle,” or a similar name, for between $100 to $200 at Amazon.com, eBay.com, Sears.com and other online retailers. They measure 88 inches long, 118 inches wide and 72 inches high, with a main bounce area and a ball pit attached next to it.
