Nexgrill Wire Grill Brushes Recalled After 5 Ingestion Injuries Reported
In March 2026, Nexgrill Industries recalled over 10.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes in cooperation with the CPSC. The recall was issued because small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.
Nexgrill described the recall as voluntary, stating the company made the decision “out of an abundance of caution” and in partnership with the CPSC. The recalled brushes were sold at Home Depot stores and on homedepot.com from 2015 through 2026 for between approximately $5 and $15.
What Is the Problem?
The CPSC describes the hazard as follows:
“Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.”
Medical experts have explained that detached wire bristles are extremely difficult to see on grill grates and can easily transfer to food.
Once swallowed, thin metal wires can embed in the soft tissues of the mouth and throat, or travel through the digestive system, where they risk causing bowel obstructions or perforations requiring surgical intervention.
The CPSC has received at least 68 reports of bristles detaching, including 5 cases in which consumers required medical treatment to remove the bristles from their throat or digestive tract. This recall follows a similar recall of more than 3.2 million Weber metal wire grill brushes issued just weeks earlier for the same hazard.
How Many People Were Injured?
According to the CPSC, Nexgrill received at least:
- 68 total reports of metal bristles detaching from the brushes
- 5 reports of consumers who swallowed metal bristles and required medical treatment
- Medical interventions reported to remove bristles from the throat or digestive tract
Incident reports submitted to the CPSC might be an undercount of actual consumer injuries. This is because some consumers do not connect a mysterious throat or stomach symptom to a recently used grill brush, and may never seek care or report the incident at all.
How To Identify Recalled Nexgrill Brushes
The recall covers 6 models of Nexgrill metal wire bristle grill brushes. Model numbers can be found on the product packaging and the word “Nexgrill” appears on each model:
- Model 530-0024
- Model 530-0024G
- Model 530-0034
- Model 530-0039
- Model 530-0041
- Model 530-0042
All recalled brushes have black plastic or wood handles and measure between 18 and 21 inches long. They were sold exclusively at Home Depot stores and on homedepot.com from 2015 through 2026, priced between approximately $5 and $15.
What Should I Do?
The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled brushes. To obtain a refund (issued as a Nexgrill gift card) consumers should contact Nexgrill and follow these steps:
- Call Nexgrill toll-free at 800-942-1498 (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET)
- Or register online at the Nexgrill recall website or at nexgrill.com by clicking “Product Recalls”
- Receive a registration code and upload a photo of the brush with that code and your initials
- After receiving a confirmation email, follow directions for how to discard the brush
- Do not discard the brush before registration is confirmed — a photo of the product is required
Safety officials recommend replacing wire bristle brushes with a bristle-free alternative such as a nylon brush, grill scraper, or cleaning stone. For the full official recall notice, visit the CPSC recall page.
