March 3, 2023 — A woman from Texas who was burned by an explosion of hot liquid from her Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed by Gwendolyn P., a woman from Texas who claims that she was seriously injured by a defective Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 Multi-Cooker (Model Number OP302).
The product is advertised as an “all in one” multi-cooker with multiple features, including a pressure cooker, air fryer, steamer, broiler, and more.
On or around November 7, she claims that she was using the Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker when she needed to add an ingredient.
She released the pressure, and as the pressure was releasing, her lawsuit alleges that “the lid came open and liquid exploded out of the pressure cooker, causing Plaintiff severe burns.”
The manufacturer, SharkNinja LLC, is accused of failing to adequately warn consumers that the lid on the pressure cooker can open when it is pressurized.
She also accuses SharkNinja of selling pressure cookers that are “defective and unreasonably dangerous” because they have “a poorly designed safety system that allowed the pressure cooker to open when it was still pressurized.”
She is seeking at least $75,000 in compensation for her economic and non-economic losses, including bodily injuries, pain and suffering, medical expenses, decreased enjoyment of life, and more.
Her lawsuit was filed on February 20, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas (Galveston Division) — Case Number 3:23-cv-00053.
