April 17, 2024 — A woman who was burned when the lid exploded off her Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, SharkNinja LLC.
The lawsuit was filed by Sydney C., a resident of Jacksonville Beach, Florida who allegedly suffered “severe, disfiguring burns” on Christmas Day in December 2022.
She blames her injuries on a defective Ninja Foodi Deluxe 8-Quart Tendercrisp Pressure Cooker (Model 0P401BRN I07). According to her lawsuit:
“The pressure cooker’s lid unexpectedly and suddenly blew off the pot in explosive manner. The contents of the pressure cooker were forcefully ejected out of the pot and onto Plaintiff, causing severe, disfiguring burns.”
She provided graphic photos of her burn injuries in the lawsuit, showing extensive areas of burned, red, peeling skin.
In her lawsuit, she blames SharkNinja LLC for selling defective pressure cookers and misleading customers about the safety features. The lawsuit quotes the Owner’s Manual, which claims: “NOTE: The pressure lid will not unlock until the unit is completely depressurized.”
She is seeking compensation for “severely painful and disfiguring burns and other injury” to her body, disability, loss of enjoyment of life, medical care, and other damages.
Her lawsuit was filed on April 2, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida (Jacksonville Division) — Case Number 3:24-cv-00334-WWB-JBT.
