July 22, 2022 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who claims that she was severely burned by a defective NutriBullet blender.
She accuses the manufacturer of failing to issue a recall, despite numerous complaints of burns and lacerations.
The lawsuit cites 83 other NutriBullet lawsuits nationwide, as well as 15 complaints to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and a class action lawsuit in California on behalf of more than 100 consumers who are seeking refunds.
The lawsuit was filed by Abria M., 29, a woman from Illinois who claims that she was injured by July 2020 while using her NutriBullet 900 series blender (Model Number NB-201).
She claims that she was using the NutriBullet normally when the plastic cup “explosively separated from the blade base,” spewing scalding-hot food and liquid all over her body, causing severe burns.
The claims that the NutriBullet blender is defective because in a “short amount of time, the fast-spinning blades can unexpectedly heat up its contents.” Furthermore:
“The temperature can get so hot tat the pressure inside the cup forces the cup to separate from the blade while the blender is still running. This can cause the hot contents of the cup to explosively project outward without warning.”
The NutriBullet Lawsuit was filed against Capital Brands LLC and NutriBullet LLC on July 21, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:22-cv-03218.
