March 12, 2019 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who suffered burns on her face when her NutriBullet blender exploded hot food and liquid.
The lawsuit was filed by Minerva Gil, a woman from New York who was injured by a NutriBullet 900 blender that exploded in March 2016.
“The explosion left her face, neck, and arms covered in extremely hot liquid, causing significant burns, a great deal of pain and suffering, and residual and likely permanent disfigurement.”
Gil was using the NutriBullet to blend cooked vegetables that had been allowed to cool and mixed with cool water, according to the lawsuit.
She claims that friction from her NutriBullet blender’s spinning blades caused her food to get dangerously hot. “To this day, [she] still has disfigurement and scarring on the affected areas,” the lawsuit states.
The law firm representing her represents about 120 people who say they were injured by the NutriBullet blender. Lawyers say company that makes NutriBullet has known of the explosion risk since 2011.
The lawsuit is In RE: Gil v. NutriBullet LLC et al. — Case No. 1:19-cv-02171 — in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
