OCTROT Heated Blankets Recalled After 15 Burn and Shock Injuries Reported
In July 2026, a recall was issued for approximately 178,000 OCTROT heated sherpa throws and blankets that were sold on Amazon.com.
What Is the Problem With OCTROT Heated Blankets?
The safety hazard is a problem with the power cord, not the heating element in the blanket. According to the CPSC:
“The electrical cord on the recalled throws and blankets can detach and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire, burn and shock hazards.”
An electrical cord that detaches and catches on fire is a particularly dangerous failure in a blanket. These products are often used when a person is asleep, with the blanket directly against their body or wrapped around a flammable cushion.
How Many People Were Injured?
OCTROT received 555 reports of blankets or throws melting, sparking and smoking. Those reports include 27 fires and 15 people who suffered burn injuries or electrical shocks.
How Long Were These Blankets Sold on Amazon?
The recalled throws and blankets were sold on Amazon.com for about 4 years, between August 2021 and December 2025 at prices between $40 and $60. The recall was not announced until July 30, 2026, roughly 7 months after the last units were sold.
How To Identify Recalled OCTROT Throws and Blankets
The recall covers OCTROT-branded electrical throws and blankets with a sherpa surface. Each was sold with a white controller that has 5 temperature settings. The recalled model numbers are:

- OCT-8490
The recalled colorways are gray and yellow, white with gray, white with yellow, white with blue and white with red. The recalled sizes are:
- 50 inches by 62 inches
- 50 inches by 60 inches

- 64 inches by 84 inches
- 84 inches by 90 inches

Consumers should stop using the recalled throws and blankets immediately and contact OCTROT for a full refund. To receive the refund, you must destroy the products by unplugging the electrical cord and cutting it in half, and then sending a photo of the product to OctrotRecall@outlook.com.
