Costco Recalls Inflatable Paddle Boards for Drowning Hazard

In December 2022, Surf 9 recalled more than 20,000 Body Glove® Inflatable Tandem 2-Person Paddle Boards that were sold at Costco.

The problem is that the glue can separate at the seam, which could cause the paddle board to suddenly deflate. The issue poses a drowning hazard to people who are using the paddle board.

No injuries or drowning incidents were reported to Surf 9, but the company said it received 3 reports of the Body Glove paddle boards deflating. As a precaution, Surf 9 also recalled several other models of inflatable paddle boards with the same design flaw.

The recall includes about 13,300 Body Glove Inflatable Tandem Stand Up Paddle Boards, which were sold exclusively at Costco stores between December 2021 and July 2022 for about $630.

Surf 9 also recalled 3 other products, including the ULI Inventor Inflatable Paddle Boards, and two types of “supyaks,” which are combination kayak-SUPs (Stand Up Paddleboards). The ULI boards were sold between July 2021 and July 2022 for $700 to $800.
