In November 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a Safety Warning for nearly all Rad Power E-Bike Batteries that can catch on fire or explode, even when they are not charging, not in use, or the battery was in storage. The defective batteries have Model RP-1304 and HL-RP-S1304
What is the Problem?
Rad Power E-Bike Batteries can unexpectedly catch on fire or explode, even when not in use, which poses a fire hazard and a risk of death or serious injuries:
“The hazardous batteries can unexpectedly ignite and explode, posing a fire hazard to consumers, especially when the battery or the harness has been exposed to water and debris. CPSC is aware of 31 reports of fire, including 12 reports of property damage totaling approximately $734,500.
Batteries Can Explode Even When Not In Use
The lithium-ion battery packs for Rad Power E-Bikes can catch on fire or explode at any time, even when the battery was not charging, the product was not in use, and the product was in storage.
How Many Rad Power E-Bike Are Linked to Fire Hazards?
The warning does not say how many batteries are affected by the fire hazard. The defective batteries have Model Numbers RP-1304 and HL-RP-S1304. They were sold with most Rad Power E-Bikes, including:

The warning involves batteries with model number HL-RP-S1304 or RP-1304, which is printed on a label on the back or rear of the battery.
They were sold on RadPowerBikes.com and at Best Buy stores and independent bike shops nationwide for about $550 (replacement batteries) or between $1,500 and $2,000 (when sold with e-bikes).
Can I Get a Refund?
No. Rad Power Bikes “refused to agree to agree to an acceptable recall. Given its financial situation, Rad Power Bikes has indicated to CPSC that it is unable to offer replacement batteries or refunds to all consumers,” according to the safety warning.
