Rapala Fillet Knife Recall

On January 19, 2021, a safety recall was issued for Rapala® Rechargeable Fillet Knives (Item No. RRFN) due to a fire hazard. The cordless fillet knives are primarily used as fishing knives, but also for hunting and kitchen uses.

What is the problem?

The rechargeable battery can overheat and catch fire if non-Rapala chargers are used to charge the battery. The problem poses a risk of serious burn injuries and property damage.

How Many Fires Were Reported?

Rapala said it has received reports of 12 batteries overheating and catching fire. In some cases, the fires caused property damage to the surrounding area. No injuries were reported.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled fillet knives were sold at Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Fleet Farm and sporting goods stores nationwide and online at rapala.com from March 2011 through December 2018 for about $101.

What Should I Do?

Rapala is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled rechargeable fillet knife, remove the battery, and look for a white ETL label on the battery. If the battery does not have a white ETL label, consumers should contact Rapala USA for a free replacement battery.
