UPDATE: RockaRoo Class Action Lawsuit Filed After Baby Death Reported
In August 2022, 4moms was hit by a class action lawsuit after a baby strangled to death and millions of MamaRoo Baby Swings and RockaRoo Rockers were recalled.
4moms put profits over safety by continuing to sell the RockaRoo and MamaRoo for 3 years after the first report of a baby strangling in August 2018, according to the lawsuit.
4moms was “aware of the risk of infant strangulation of the recalled devices in August of 2018, when the first injury of this kind was reported to them,” the lawsuit alleges. “Yet, defendant continued to manufacture and sell the recalled devices.”
The class members would include people the U.S. who bought 4moms MamaRoo Swings and RockaRoo Rockers from January 2010 through August 2022.
The class action lawsuit was filed on August 29, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania – Case Number 2:05-mc-02025.
RockaRoo Baby Rocker Recalled for Deadly Strangulation Hazard
In August 2022, 4moms recalled 220,000 RockaRoo Baby Rockers and more than 2 million MamaRoo Baby Swings because infants can crawl under an unoccupied swing and strangle to death on the straps.
RockaRoo Recalled After 10-Month-Old Baby Dies
The recall was issued after a 10-month-old baby strangled to death on the straps that were dangling under an unoccupied MamaRoo Baby Swing. Another 10-month-old baby suffered bruising to his neck and nearly died after getting entangled in the straps, but was rescued by a caregiver just in time.
What Should I Do?
4moms is asking consumers with infants who can crawl to immediately stop using the recalled swings and rockers, place them in an area where crawling infants cannot access, and register your product immediately to receive a free strap fastener that will prevent the straps from extending under the swing when not in use.
Was My Baby Rocker Recalled?
The recall involves RockaRoo Baby Rockers (Model 4M-012) and MamaRoo Baby Swings (Models: 4M-005, 1026, and 1037). The model number is located on the bottom of the unit.
Millions of Baby Swings & Rockers Recalled for Deadly Suffocation Hazard
In recent years, millions of baby swings, rockers, gliders and inclined sleepers have been recalled. Tragically, more than 100 deaths and 1,100 close calls have been reported.
These deaths have been linked to products with inclined sleep surfaces, which pose a suffocation hazard if babies flip over from their back to their stomach, or roll over to their side, and get stuck with their face pressed into the fabric.
Most recently, 14 deaths were linked to Kids2 Baby Rockers and Fisher-Price Baby Rockers. At least 97 other babies suffocated to death in the now-recalled Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play.
