Saxenda and Stomach Paralysis

Lawsuits claim that stomach paralysis is a side effect of Saxenda and other GLP-1 diabetes medications, such as Ozempic and Mounjaro. These medications slow down the movement of food through the digestive system and boost the production of insulin, which helps people feel full longer and eat less food. This can help with weight-loss, but it can also lead to devastating gastrointestinal side effects.

Saxenda and Pancreatic Cancer

In March 2013, the FDA issued a Safety Communication about a possible increased risk of pancreatitis and pre-cancerous cell changes in the pancreas of patients who were treated with Victoza (liraglutide), a diabetes medications that contains the same active ingredient as Saxenda. The warning was issued after a study determined that pancreatic tissue samples from patients who died after taking drugs like Saxenda had pre-cancerous tumors.

Saxenda and Thyroid Cancer

The Label (PDF) on Saxenda carries a “Black Box” to warn patients that it is known to cause thyroid C-cell tumors in mice and rats at clinically relevant exposure levels. The FDA warned doctors not to prescribe Saxenda to patients with a history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type-2 (MEN 2). The symptoms of thyroid cancer can include:

  • Neck pain
  • Lump or swelling on the neck
  • Pain on the front of the neck
  • Hoarseness
  • Voice changes
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Cough not due to an illness
  • Enlarged lymph nodes

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but our lawyers are not filing a Saxenda class action lawsuit.

Instead, we are reviewing individual lawsuits for people who had side effects such as stomach paralysis, gastroparesis, pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, or thyroid cancer.

About Class Actions

Class actions are typically filed by one person on behalf of a much larger group of people with the same legal claim. Instead of everyone filing their own lawsuit, each person joins the class action lawsuit and shares the payout collectively.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions have disadvantages when one person has suffered far more serious injuries than the average plaintiff. Members of a class action may have to accept a “low-ball” settlement or higher attorneys’ fees.

Our lawyers are filing individual Saxenda lawsuits so we can focus on representing people who suffered very severe side effects. If you were injured by Saxenda, we may be able to help you seek compensation for your injury, medical expenses, and more.
