May 22, 2025 — About 100 pounds of smoked andouille sausage have been recalled by a Louisiana-based butcher due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
The recall was announced by Bourgeois Smokehouse, a butcher in Thibodaux, Louisiana. There were no reports of any illnesses.
Health officials said that routine tests on the smoked andouille sausage product were positive for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, according to the USDA Food Safety Inspection (FSIS).
The recall involves ready-to-eat smoked andouille sausage that was produced by Bourgeois Smokehouse on May 12, 2025.
The sausage was weighed, wrapped, and labeled in-store at the time of purchase. The products were also shipped to Rouses Market stores in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi after May 13, 2025.
Anyone who may have bought this product should not eat it. The product can be thrown away or returned to the store for a refund.
The sausage may pose a risk of Listeria infections, especially for young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with vulnerable immune systems. Symptoms may not appear for months:
“Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.”
