CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using OUSPT Full-Face Snorkel Masks

On March 5, 2026, the CPSC issued an urgent warning telling consumers to immediately stop using OUSPT Full-Face Snorkel Masks due to a drowning hazard. About 84,000 masks were sold on Amazon from March 2019 through February 2026. The seller, Field Life of China, has not responded to CPSC requests for information or a recall.

What is the Problem?

Full-face snorkel masks cover the entire face with a sealed chamber, unlike traditional snorkel gear. The design of the OUSPT mask restricts airflow and traps carbon dioxide inside that chamber. As CO2 builds up, users can experience labored breathing, dizziness, and sudden loss of consciousness. In the water, losing consciousness means drowning.

“The mask can cause consumers to experience labored breathing, causing loss of consciousness or excess fluid in the lungs that can lead to drowning. In addition, the mask can give rise to increased levels of carbon dioxide which can exacerbate the difficulty of breathing in the mask.”

How Many People Were Injured?

The CPSC has documented the following reports involving the OUSPT mask:

  • Five consumers reported trouble breathing, light-headedness, or loss of consciousness while using the product
  • One lawsuit has been filed alleging the mask caused a drowning fatality

How to Identify the Recalled Masks

  • Brand name “OUSPT” printed on the snorkel tube
  • Glass screen covering the full face
  • Breathing apparatus covering both mouth and nose
  • Snorkel pipe at the top center of the mask
  • Available in various colors
  • Sold on Amazon.com from March 2019 through February 2026

What Should I Do?

Stop using the mask immediately. Do not sell it, donate it, or pass it on to anyone else. Dispose of it entirely. Report any incident or injury to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
