What is Listeria?

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning illnesses. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Complications of Listeria Infections

In some cases, Listeria infections spread in the body and cause meningitis (brain inflammation) or other severe, life-threatening complications. Pregnant women may have no symptoms, but suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or serious infection of their newborn baby.
