UPDATE: Baby Spinach Recalled in 6 States for Salmonella Risk
In November 2020, Vegpro International recalled Fresh Attitude® Baby Spinach due to risk of Salmonella.
No illnesses were reported, but food poisoning infections with Salmonella can be serious, and sometimes deadly.
The recalled baby spinach was produced in Eastern Canada and distributed to the following 6 states: New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
The product came in 5-oz. and 11-oz. plastic clamshell containers, with Best-Before dates of December 4th (for the 11-oz. product) and December 4th and 5th (for the 5-oz. product).
Whole Foods Recalls Dozens of Products Due to Spinach Salmonella Risk
In January 2019, Whole Foods Markets in 8 states recalled dozens of pre-made foods and deli items with baby spinach that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The foods include salads, pizzas, sandwiches and wraps that contain baby spinach. They were sold in Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
Dole Baby Spinach Recalled for Salmonella Risk
In August 2019, Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. recalled a limited amount of fresh baby spinach due to a risk of Salmonella contamination.
The recall was issued after Michigan health officials randomly tested a baby spinach product and it was positive for Salmonella.
No illnesses were reported. The products were distributed in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The recall only includes baby spinach with Use-By dates of 08-05-2019:
- 6-oz bags of Dole Baby Spinach (Lot W20308A and UPC code 0-71430-00964-2)
- 10-oz clamshell containers of Dole Baby Spinach (Lot W203010 and UPC code 0-71430-00016-8).
Salmonella Food Poisoning Symptoms
The symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually start within 6 hours to 6 days after eating contaminated food. The symptoms typically last for 4 to 7 days.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists the most common symptoms of a Salmonella infection as:
- Diarrhea (that can be bloody)
- Fever
- Stomach cramps
- Some people may also have nausea, vomiting, or a headache
