March 25, 2015 — Just days after Amy’s Kitchen and Wegmans recalled organic spinach due to Listeria fears, recalls have been issued by at least three more organic food companies for products sold at Costco and other major grocery stores.
No illnesses have been reported in association with any recalls.
Yesterday, a recall was announced by La Terra Fina for organic spinach artichoke dip. The products were sold at Smart & Final stores on the West Coast and at Costco stores in the Northwest, Midwest, Northeast and Southeast. Products included:
- Spinach Artichoke & Parmesan Dip made with Greek Yogurt
- Chunky Spinach Artichoke & Parmesan Dip
Another recall was issued by Carmel Food Group for several organic ravioli products under the Rising Moon Organics brand, including:
- Rising Moon Organics Garlic & Veggie Ravioli
- Rising Moon Organics Spinach Florentine Ravioli
- Rising Moon Organics Spinach & Cheese Ravioli
A recall was also issued by Twin City Foods, Inc., for frozen spinach products that were sold under the following brands:
- Cadia Organic Cut Spinach (16oz frozen packages)
- Meijer Harvest Organic Cut Leaf Spinach (16oz frozen packages)
- Wegmans Organic Just Picked Spinach (12oz frozen packages)
Listeria Food Poisoning
The FDA has warned that infection with Listeria monocytogenes can be very serious or even fatal:
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
