In August 2019, a Valsartan Lawsuit (PDF) was filed by the widow of a man who died of cancer after taking different types of generic valsarta from October 2014 until August 2018, when several valsartan recalls were issued due to cancer-causing impurities in the medication.

Valsartan Recalled for Toxic Cancer-Causing Impurity

In July 2018, the FDA announced the first recall for several valsartan medications because they contain a toxic impurity that is believed to cause cancer and other severe side effects. Since then, many additional recalls have been issued.

What is the Problem?

It is mainly used to treat high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and to help a person live longer after suffering a heart attack.
