On September 9, 2020, WHILL Inc. recalled about 1,160 Personal Electric Vehicles (Model Ci Motorized Wheelchairs) due to a crash and injury hazard.
What is the Problem?
WHILL wheelchairs were recalled because the control pad can malfunction, which can cause the power to turn on/off, and the speed to increase or decrease.
No injuries were reported, but WHILL said it received 15 reports of malfunctions.
What Wheelchairs Were Recalled?
The recall involves WHILL Personal Electric Vehicles, Model Ci with serial numbers ranging from C_1711188_US through C_1909011_US. The serial number label is located on the seat assembly.
The words “WHILL” and “Model Ci” are printed on the battery compartment. The wheelchairs are black and the arm covers come in white, red, blue and black colors.
They were sold online at spinlife.com, scootaround.com, accessnsm.com and topmobility.com and other online retailers from November 2017 to September 2019 for about $4,500.
