August 9, 2023 — David Oppenheimer and Company I LLC has recalled 1-pound containers of Zespri® Organic Green Kiwi due to a risk of food poisoning infections with Listeria bacteria.
The recall involves organic green kiwifruit that was grown in New Zealand and imported to the U.S. and Canada.
The kiwi was shipped between June 14, 2023 and July 7, 2023, and sold in 1-pound clear plastic clamshell containers at grocery stores.
The clamshell containers are labeled with the Zespri® brand and UPC Code 8 18849 02009 3. The individual kiwi fruits are stickered with the GTIN bar code 9400 9552.
The product was sold in the following states: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
No illnesses were reported, but health officials in Kentucky discovered Listeria monocytogenes contamination during a routine test.
Infections with Listeria can be serious and sometimes fatal, especially for young children, elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women may also suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the newborn baby.
