Overview

Zydelig is a chemotherapy drug for people with B-cell blood cancer that has returned (relapsed) after other treatments failed. Gilead Sciences was investigating Zydelig as a first-line treatment for cancer, which is not approved by the FDA.

Zydelig Studies Halted After Patient Deaths

In March 2016, the FDA alerted healthcare professionals that six clinical trials were abandoned after several patients died. Zydelig weakens the immune system and pneumonia is one of the most common side effects. European health officials warned about two serious infections and recommended antibiotics to reduce the risk.

Zydelig Linked to Infections

Lung infections linked to Zydelig include Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia, which is caused by a common fungus. It can lead to respiratory failure and death. Symptoms include coughing, fever, and breathing problems.

Zydelig was also associated with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. This virus infects 50-80% of the population over age 40 but only causes symptoms in people with compromised immune systems. Symptoms include:

  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling generally sick and tired (malaise)
  • Muscle aches
  • Rash
  • Sore throat

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but our lawyers are not filing a Zydelig class action at this time. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits on behalf of people who were diagnosed with severe infections or other side effects.

About Class Actions

Class actions are a useful way to seek refunds when a lot of people buy a defective product. They are designed to maximize efficiency and resolve a lot of similar legal claims all at once. When compensation is awarded, everyone shares the payout equally.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

The problem with class actions is that they are not designed to maximize compensation for individual plaintiffs with very serious injuries. Members may have to accept “low-ball” settlements or massive attorneys’ fees that leave little payout remaining.

Instead of a class action, our lawyers file individual lawsuits. We specialize in holding pharmaceutical companies accountable for selling dangerous medications and failing to warn about side effects. If you file a lawsuit, you could receive compensation for your injury, medical expenses, and more.
