Cyclospora Symptom Information
Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasite that infects the intestines of humans. It is transmitted by ingestion of food or water contaminated with feces. The most common symptoms of Cyclospora infection are watery diarrhea and fatigue. These symptoms appear between 2-14 days after contaminated food is eaten, and they may go away and return (relapse).
Infections can be treated with the antibiotic combination trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, but untreated people can have prolonged illness for an average of 57 days.
