February 9, 2021 — Shenandoah Growers Inc. has issued another recall for fresh organic basil after a product tested positive for Cyclospora parasites.
The most recent recall from Shenandoah involves fresh-cut organic basil that was grown in Colombia, imported to the U.S. by Vallarta Organics, and sold under brands like That’s Tasty® or Simple Truth®.
Shenandoah did not report any illnesses, but said the recall was issued after a sample of basil that was tested at the port of entry in Miami by the FDA “indicated the potential presence of Cyclospora.”
The basil was distributed from 2/3/2021 to 2/4/2021 by Kroger, Schnuck’s, Indianapolis Fruit, Vine Line Produce, and J&J Distributing.
The basil was sold under the brand-names Shenandoah Growers by That’s Tasty, That’s Tasty, and Simple Truth (Kroger).
The basil was sold in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
Just three months ago, back in November 2020, Shenandoah Growers issued another organic basil recall after another product from Colombia tested positive for Cyclospora parasites.
The basil that tested positive came from an unnamed store in Florida. The recall involved 8 brands of fresh organic basil, including products sold at Safeway, Kroger, Target, Hannaford, and other grocery stores.
