2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Recall

In December 2018, Ford announced a recall for over 35,000 of the model-year 2018 Lincoln Navigator and the 2018 Ford Expedition SUV with second-row center bench seats.

The vehicles were built at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant with build dates from March 14, 2017 through August 18, 2018.

What is the Problem?

The seats may be missing J-channel reinforcement brackets in the seat track assembly. This could result in the seat breaking loose and flying forward in a car accident, increasing the risk of injury or death.

What is the Safety Risk?

A seat track that is missing reinforcement brackets may not properly restrain a passenger in a car accident.

What is the Fix?

To fix the problem, owners should bring their car to a dealer for a free inspection and repair. Dealers will inspect the vehicles to determine if one or both of the J-channel seat brackets are installed properly. If they are missing, dealers will replace the center seat frame assembly.

What Should I Do in the Meantime?

Owners should move the seat to its farthest back position, away from the front of the vehicle, until the vehicle can be inspected or repaired.

Where Can I Get More Information?

For more information, owners can contact Ford at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their VIN and learn more.
