Tower Pressure Cooker Recall

February 2019 — European safety regulators have announced a recall for the TOWER® 6-Liter Stainless Steel One-Touch Pressure Cooker because the lid may open and cause hot food to explode out of the pressure cooker and cause burn injuries.

What is the Problem?

Due to “inadequate” safety devices, the recalled Tower pressure cooker does not comply with the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive and the European standard EN 12778.

Tower Pressure Cooker Explosions & Injury Risk

The manufacturer claims that no complaints or injuries are associated with the pressure cooker in Europe.

If the pressure cooker’s lid is opened, the lid’s gasket may be ejected from the lid. This could cause hot liquid to explode out of the pressure cooker, causing burn injuries to anyone nearby. The recall states:

“It is also possible that the upper part of the manometric rod may become partially detached and therefore the safe opening system no longer works properly.”

What Models Were Recalled?

The recalled pressure cookers have Model #T90103 printed on the base of the pressure cooker and Barcode #5055195872791 printed on the box). They were sold at Argos and Robert Dyas.

What Should I Do?

If you own a recalled pressure cooker, stop using it immediately, even if you have not had any problems with it in in the past. Contact the manufacturer for more information.
