December 13, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed against Tristar Products by a woman who was burned by an Emeril Lagasse Pressure Air Fryer Plus that exploded when she opened the lid.
The plaintiff, Amber D., is a resident of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, who claims to have suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries.”
She blames her injuries on defective safety features on the Emeril Lagasse Pressure Air Fryer Plus (Model #Y6D-AF-36B), which is a kitchen appliance that combines an air fryer with a pressure cooker.
The safety features were advertised to prevent the lid from opening while the unit was pressurized, including features like a “safety lid lock,” a “positive pressure mechanism,” and a “lid positioning sensor.”
Instead, she claims that she was able to easily open the lid when the unit was pressurized, resulting in an ejection of scalding-hot liquids.
Her lawsuit blames Tristar Products for failing to warn unsuspecting consumers about the burn hazards associate with pressure cookers.
She also claims that the safety features failed to prevent the unit from building up pressure when the lid was not securely locked into place, or preventing the lid from opening until it was fully depressurized.
Her pressure cooker lawsuit was filed on December 3, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:24-cv-04354.
