E. coli Food Poisoning

Infections with E. coli can cause different symptoms among people, but often include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), and vomiting. Most people recover within a week, but some people develop a life-threatening type of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), which can result in death.

Experts Urge Caution on Flour Food Poisoning Risk

Rhode Island health officials are warning consumers not eat any raw flour products. Flour is made from wheat that is grown outdoors, where it can be contaminated by bacteria in the environment.

“Consumers are reminded to wash their hands, work surfaces, and utensils thoroughly after contact with raw dough products or flour, and to never eat raw dough or batter.”
