May 23, 2019 — Aurora Packing Company Inc. has recalled over 62,000 pounds of beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli.
The recalled beef items include short ribs, rib finger meat, chuck flap meat, brisket, skirt steaks, shoulder, shank meat, and more.
The beef may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a bacteria that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Most people recover within a week, but some develop a type of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) or suffer death.
The recalled raw beef products were packaged on April 19, 2019 and labeled with establishment number “EST. 788” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped nationwide for further distribution.
The problem was discovered after random sample testing by the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service.
There have been no confirmed reports of illnesses caused by eating the recalled beef products.
In March 2019, Aurora Packing Co. previously recalled nearly 5,000 pounds of beef heel and beef chuck tender products due to a risk of E. coli contamination.
