JBS Ground Beef Recalled for E. Coli

November 17, 2018 — JBS announced a recall for 99,260 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli. No illnesses were reported.

The ground beef was produced on October 24, 2018 at Swift Beef Co., a company owned by JBS USA. The recall was issued after a sample of ground beef tested positive for E. coli at a further processing establishment.

The recalled ground beef was packaged in 2,000-pound pallets, or plastic-wrapped packages of 8 to 10 pounds, and was marked with the “Blue Ribbon Beef®” brand-name.

The following beef products were recalled:

  • Ground Beef 81/19 (81% lean) Coarse Grind bearing product code 42410.
  • Ground Beef 93/07 (93% lean) Coarse Grind bearing product code 42413.
  • Ground Beef 85/15 (85% lean) Coarse Grind bearing product code 42415.
  • Ground Beef 73/27 (73% lean) Coarse Grind bearing product code 42510.

The ground beef was shipped to distributors and food service for institutions in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

JBS Tolleson Beef Recalled for Salmonella

October 4, 2018 — JBS Tolleson Inc. of Arizona announced a recall for approximately 6.5 million pounds of raw beef, including ground beef, due to a risk of Salmonella contamination.

JBS sold the beef at Walmart, Kroger, and more than 100 stores under brand-names such as:

  • Cedar River Farms Natural
  • Comnor Perfect Choice
  • Gourmet Burger
  • Grass Run Farms Natural
  • JBS Generic
  • Showcase
  • Walmart

The CDC outbreak investigation on November 15, 2018 reported that 246 people were infected with Salmonella in 25 states after eating the recalled beef, including 59 people who were hospitalized between August 5, 2018 and October 16, 2018.

The ground beef was sold nationwide, produced from July 26, 2018 to September 7, 2018, and sold nationwide, and labeled with the establishment number “EST. 267.” Click here to read more.
