September 20, 2012 — The Canadian company Babylicious Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) are voluntarily recalling crib fringes due to the risk of strangulation. No children have been injured or killed by the products. However, if the crib fringe got inside a crib, a child could potentially become entangled in the string and strangle to death. The recall is being taken as a precaution to prevent future injuries.
The crib fringes are designed with a string connecting several small, colorful, triangular pieces of fabric. They are supposed to decorate the edge of a crib, a crib rail, a window valence, or a curtain rod.
The recall affects approximately 300 crib fringes that were sold online and in baby product stores from January 2006 through May 2012. Each product contained two crib fringes, which were sold with a suggested retail price of $24.
Babylicious and the CPSC are advising customers who purchased the product to immediately stop using it. The products should not be used around children due to the potential risk of strangulation.
Babylicious is offering a $12 refund per crib fringe. Because each set contained two crib fringes and was sold for $24, customers can return both fringes for a full refund. The fringes must be returned by September 30, 2012. They can expect to receive a refund within six weeks. Customers can contact Babylicious for more information about the recall.
