Bella Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Alleges Lid Fails to Lock

In June 2022, a lawsuit was filed against Sensio Inc. by a woman from Wisconsin who alleges that she was seriously burned by her Bella 6-Quart 10-in-1 Multicooker (Model Number M-60B23G). According to the lawsuit, the lid fails to lock as advertised. She claims that she was able to easily twist open the lid when there was still a dangerous amount of pressure inside the pressure cooker. Click here to read more.

What is the Problem?

According to the owner’s manual, Bella Pressure Cookers feature a “safety valve” that is supposed to lock the lid and prevent it from opening after the unit is pressurized. The manual specifically states:

“WHEN COOKING UNDER PRESSURE, THE PRESSURE COOKER CANNOT BE OPENED ONCE PRESSURE IS REACHED. DO NOT TRY TO FORCE THE LID OPEN.”

Bella Pressure Cooker Lawsuits

Many people have been severely burned when they were able to easily open the lid on their Bella Pressure Cooker before it was safe. Lawsuits claim that Bella Pressure Cookers are “unreasonably dangerous for their intended use by consumers because the lid can be rotated and opened while the unit remains pressurized.”

Bella Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Filed for Burn Injuries

In May 2021, a pressure cooker lawsuit was filed against Sensio Inc. (doing business as Bella) by a woman from Seattle, Washington, who was severely burned by an explosion of hot food and scalding liquid.

The lawsuit was filed by Lisa D., who was injured by a Bella 5-Quart Pressure Cooker (Model Number J&-PC20US-5P) in May 2018.

In her lawsuit, she accuses Sensio Inc. of misleading consumers about the safety of the Bella Pressure Cooker. For example, the pressure cooker is advertised to have an “extremely safe and secure locking system.”

Instead, she claims she was able to easily twist open the lid on her Bella Pressure Cooker when there was still a dangerous amount of pressure inside the pot. Doing so allowed “its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto her body.

Her lawsuit was filed on May 20, 2021 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington (Seattle) — Case Number 2:21-cv-00664.
