MIPS Bike Helmet Technology
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a bicycle helmet technology that improves protection for a rider’s head. While most helmets are good at protecting a person in frontal impacts, injuries frequently occur in side-impact collisions due to rotational strain.
Helmets with MIPS technology are constructed from two layers that rotate or slip against each other, which reduces the harmful rotational forces in side-angle impacts. It debuted in 2010 in bicycle helmets.
