BILT Motorcycle Helmets Recalled for Risk of Injury & Death

In January 2023, Comoto Holdings Inc. recalled around 35,000 BILT Vertex and BILT Route motorcycle helmets because they may not provide adequate impact protection in a crash.

No injuries or deaths were reported in the recalls, but a lack of penetration protection poses a risk of severe injury or death in a crash.

The recalled motorcycle helmets failed independent testing to ensure compliance with federal safety requirements, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall involves two models of BILT helmets, including about 18,980 BILT Route Helmets and another 16,443 BILT Vertex Helmets.

The following models are affected by the recall:

  • BILT Vertex: The recall includes the BILT Vertex (BLH133), BILT Vertex Parabola (BLH141), and BILT Vertex Stripes (BLH134) — Sizes SM, MD, LG, and XL — Produced After September 1, 2021
  • BILT Route: The recall includes the BILT Route (BLH100), BILT Route Retro Women’s Helmet (BLH118), and BILT Route Journey (BLH109) — Sizes MD, XL, and XXL — Produced after March 1, 2020

BILT Recalls Another 34,000 Motorcycle Helmets for Safety Risks

In March 2022, Comoto also recalled approximately 33,869 helmets because they may fail to protect a rider from injury or death in a crash.

The recall was issued after independent testing found that certain helmets “may not provide adequate impact protection in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury,” according to the recall notice.

The recall involves the following motorcycle helmets:

  • BILT Amped Evo Adult Helmet — Sizes M, XL, 2XL
  • BILT Amped Evo Rapid Adult Helmet — Sizes M, L, 2XL, 3XL
  • BILT Amped Evo Youth Helmet — Sizes SY, LY, XLY
  • Street & Steel Raider Helmet — Sizes XS, M, L, 2XL
  • BILT Grommet Youth Helmet — Sizes SY, MY, LY

The manufacturer is asking customers to immediately stop using the recalled helmets and return it by either calling customer service at 1-888-258-9530 or by visiting helmetrecall.expertinquiry.com to request a return kit.
