May 25, 2023 — Brooklyn Delhi of Brooklyn, New York, has recalled over 18,000 bottles of Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce because the glass bottle can explode.
The problem is that the glass bottle can become pressurized due to fermentation of the hot sauce.
The company explained in an email to customers: “Fermenting post bottling can cause the sauce to become pressurized and spurt out when opened.”
This issue poses a safety hazard to consumers, who may suffer injuries to their eyes, face, and hands when opening the bottles, according to the company.
The recall involves Brooklyn Delhi Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce, which was sold in 5 oz. glass bottles with UPC CODE: 85439008209.
Six batches and “Best-by” dates of the hot sauce are being recalled, including:
- 12/12/2025 Batch #22121201
- 12/13/2025 Batch #22121301
- 1/3/2026 Batch #23010301
- 1/9/2026 Batch #23010901
- 1/11/2026 Batch #23011101
- 1/31/2026 Batch #23013101
Brooklyn Delhi said there have been no reported illnesses. The company is offering a free replacement sauce to affected customers.
