July 12, 2023 — A man from Georgia who was burned by a Chef’s Mark Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer for selling a defective product.
The lawsuit was filed by David Y., a man who claims that he was seriously burned in July 2021 by a defective Chef’s Mark® 10-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker (Model Number CYD-100-V).
He claims that this pressure cooker is “unreasonably dangerous” because unsuspecting consumers can twist open the lid when there is still pressure trapped within the unit.
When he opened the lid, he was burned when the residual pressure caused by “scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto his body, according to the lawsuit.
His lawsuit was filed against the manufacturers, Bluestem Brands Inc. (doing business as Fingerhut). These companies are accused of negligence for selling a dangerously defective product.
He is seeking compensation and damages for his physical and mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages, diminished enjoyment of life, and other damages.
The lawsuit was filed on July 3, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:23-cv-02019.
