Kitesurf Control System Recall
May 17, 2017 — Cabrinha Kites has recalled 2,900 of the 2017 model-year 1X kiteboard control systems because a metal bracket can break. 
What is the Power Bracket Seat?
The defective part is the stainless-steel Power Bracket Seat (PBS). It is mounted on top of the depower mainline on all 2017 Cabrinha control systems, between the lower front lines and the landing lines. If the PBS breaks, the kite could detach and potentially cause injuries.
Number of Incidents Reported
There have been 6 reports of the metal bracket breaking. No injuries were reported, but the problem could cause loss of kite control, detachment of the kite, and injuries or stranding of the kitesurfer.
According to Cabrinha:
“There is a possibility of line failure leading to loss of rider control and/or separation of rider from kite after safety activation. Under some circumstances this could lead to injuries or rider stranding.”

- Overdrive 1X Recoil with Fireball or Quickloop
- Overdrive 1X Trimlite with Fireball or Quickloop
- Overdrive 1X with TrimLite
- Chaos 1X Control System
Product Information & Model Numbers
The recall only includes Cabrinha kiteboards with “2017 1X” printed on a cloth tab attached to the bungee line restrainers at the end of the bars. Model numbers: KS7CSODFR, KS7CSODQR, KS7CSODFC, KS7CSODQC, KS7CSFXFC, KS7CSFXQC and KS7CSCHFX.
They were sold nationwide from July 2016 to March 2017 for about $550.
Remedy for Consumers
Cabrinha is offering a new plastic bracket to replace the defective stainless steel bracket. Do not use the recalled kiteboard control systems and return them to the store where they were purchased.
