In April 2011, a benzene cancer lawsuit was filed in New Orleans, Louisiana by a Mississippi police officer with multiple myeloma named Donald Moore, Sr. (Case No. 2:11-cv-00747). According to the lawsuit:

“The development of multiple myeloma as a result of chronic benzene exposure has been well documented, and death resulting from multiple myeloma has been associated with benzene exposure,” states the lawsuit.”

Mr. Moore blames his cancer on exposure to benzene in many products, but especially Liquid Wrench degreaser that he used to clean guns and work on bikes, cars, and motor-bikes. He was exposed to benzene in paint, thinner, solvents, cleaners, and other products, including:

Benzene and Cancer

Benzene is a cancer-causing (carcinogenic) toxic chemical that is found in a wide range of products. It evaporates quickly in the air and smells sweet, but breathing benzene is extremely dangerous. Benzene accumulates in the bones, and over time, it can cause the bone marrow to produce abnormal blood cells, resulting in cancer.
